Domestic and Community

Homeowners and community groups can be more energy conscious either by taking a more responsible approach to energy efficiency or by generating the energy they require at their own premises.

There are range of measures that can be implemented free of charge to reduce energy wastage in the home  and also a range of grants available for implementing other energy efficiency measures, with the Energy Saving Trust being a particular source of advice and funding. These are described in the pages and links attached to these pages below. These pages provide you with links to sites which will give you information on technologies and funding opportunities for installing them whether within the home or within community developments.

For community users, a number of case studies are given, demonstrating successful implementation of sustainable energy projects. In addition the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA), has produced a guide 'Sustainable Energy by Design - a guide for sustainable communities' for local authorities, developers, investors and managers in the public and private sectors to show how sustainable energy can be integrated into the planning, design and development of new and existing communities. The guide demonstrates what is being, and what could be, done today in creating low-carbon communities. The case studies show how different low- and zero-carbon energy technologies can be integrated into different types of development and highlight the financial mechanisms that have made this possible.
